Structurally wise, the AmazonBasics double door folding metal dog crate is solid featuring a durable metal-wire construction for strength. However with time and usage the metal panels become a little worn out and are not as sturdy as initially and there are some bending experienced in the divider panels – a concern borne out by some reviewers. This can pose a problem in collapsing the crate as tightly flat as it should be.

The wire metal is coated but not rubber coated.

The crate has a quality latching mechanism since it has two door latches which are simple and easy to use and more importantly discourage escape artists to run off.

The plastic bottom-lining tray is little on the delicate side. Whilst it is easy to remove and clean, stronger and motivated dogs have managed to kick the bottom tray out. Surprisingly though, the dog kennel still holds! And since Amazon does not provide replacement trays (at the time of writing this review), finding another that fits can be time-consuming. As for cleaning the AmazonBasics’s tray, just use a little enzyme spray and dish detergent.

Another important feature design to a good wire crate is that it should break down and set up easily. The AmazonBasics metal crate has proven to be easy to set up with a record time of between 2-5 minutes. This is an important feature if you are doing a lot of camping and need a crate that can be easily put together and disassembled. It folds flat and so it’s easy to store, be it in the boot of your car, RV or truck.

A divider panel is included to reduce the size of the crate to accommodate a growing puppy and increase the space as and when needed. Also good for owners with multiple dogs.

AmazonBasics double door metal crate features two swing open doors, one on the front and the other on the side. Each door then features two slide-bolt latches that should be unable to be defeated by almost any dog. It’s important to note that doors are not removable.
